Build a DIY Pocket Hole Jig Workstation

Pocket holes and Pocket Hole Jig Systems are an amazing joinery tool.  Pocket holes create super strong joints (especially when paired with wood glue) and do not take years of practice to master like dovetails or mortise and tenon joints.  Certain projects are perfect use cases for a simplified assembly with pocket holes like cabinet carcass’ and drawer boxes.  Conversely, pocket holes can be looked down upon when used in fine furniture where there is an expectation of the use of high end joinery.  Nevertheless, pocket holes are completely appropriate in most DIY woodworking projects and should be a tool in your “tool belt”.

There are a number of different pocket hole jigs on the market that make it super easy for anybody to make pocket holes right away.  My first pocket hole jig system was the Kreg K4 Jig which has to be one of the most purchased pocket hole jigs ever.  However, the K4 Jig is no longer sold so I included a couple replacements in the links below.  Nonetheless, every great tool can always be better when adding accessories or enhancements that improve efficiency and that’s where this DIY Pocket Hole Jig Workstation shines.

Benefits of the Pocket Hole Workstation

  1. Additional surface area to lay longer boards across compared to the small 3″ jig surface. This helps because you don’t have to add additional wood to your workbench top to balance wood on, and move those pieces as you move your board for more pocket holes.
  2. Storage: Keep all of your pock hole screws, drill bits, screw bits, dust collector adaptors, etc all in one secured place
  3. Portable: easily carry this entire workstation from job to job.  Latches on the storage box lids hold tight so your bits and screws don’t fall out.
  4. Hang the entire workstation on the wall, out of the way, when not being used.

Below is a full build video showing exactly how I built this Pocket Hole Workstation and have linked to the complete set of detailed build plans.  Below the video I’ve included some additional details of the project as well as all of the materials and products used to build the project.

This project uses less than a third of a sheet of 1/2″ plywood and just a few other parts like latches and hinges.  This is the PERFECT beginner project since you already have a pocket hole jig (or else you wouldn’t be building a workstation for it) and you don’t need any advanced tools other than a saw to cut out the parts and a drill to make a couple holes.
